6 game-changing things you need to know about LG’s CordZero Handstick Vacuum Cleaners

No, not all vacuums are the same! Here are six things that make LG’s CordZero Handstick Vacuum Cleaners the latest must-have home appliance.

How great can a vacuum really be? Most of us detest plugging one in and relentlessly rolling a vacuum head over and over and over a stubborn cluster of crumbs.

It can be one of the most time-consuming chores because there’s the transition from rugs to tiles, and carpet to floorboards. Then there’s the hard to reach places like the corners of the staircase or the inside of the car. Ugh. The struggle is all too real.

That’s if you have the wrong vacuum.

LG has now released an incredible gamer changer on the home appliance scene with their range of CordZero Handstick Vacuum Cleaners. As the name suggests, these vacuums are completely cordless – meaning you have complete freedom from tangled cords and can clean up mess in any space conveniently!

Pretty impressive at first glance, right? The CordZero range has so much more to offer than the obvious cordless freedom, so we’ve gathered six of our favourite features about the CordZero collection that will change the way you look at cleaning.

Busts the dust with 5 Step Filtration

Let’s start off with the technical features that CordZero has to offer. Don’t be overwhelmed because we’ll take you through step by step – to a total of five steps to be exact. This dreamy cleaning machine uses 5 Step Filtration immediately from the second you turn it on to moment a particle of dust lands in its bin.

This deconstructed image shows exactly what’s going on in this lightweight vacuum (i.e.… a lot!). For a simplified explanation, dust and larger dirt particles are separated in steps 1–3 and deposited in the dustbin, while smaller particles including fine dust are filtered in steps 4–5.

These super vacuums have something called an Axial Turbo Cyclone™ design, which generates powerful mini whirlwinds of air that suck in and separate dust particles and dirt.

The built-in superfine spiral blades direct the airflow to help enhance dust separation. It’s ultra-powerful on large and small dirt particles. Check out how thoroughly it picks up sprinkles from a shaggy rug!

Improved performance with the lightweight Smart Inverter Motor® P9

The motor of any machine is arguably the most important part. LG uses a brushless Smart Inverter Motor™ in CordZero that spins at a rapid speed. It drives the fan to generate internal cyclonic airflows inside the vacuum to help separate and filter dust particles, as we mentioned in point 1.

The key feature to note is that the LG CordZero vacuum is designed with a brushless motor, which means it works with minimal mechanical friction during operation. Motors with carbon brushes may create carbon dust which wears over time when the motor is operating. Since the Smart Inverter Motor™ doesn’t use any carbon brushes, it generates minimal carbon dust.

By magnetic separation of the components (yes, we’re putting science caps on), the motor is more durable and will have a longer life. Such a long life, in fact, that LG offers a 10-year parts warranty on the motor!

The physical design of the motor itself is powerful yet small and lightweight, which allows the new and improved design compared to LG’s previous handstick vacuum cleaner.

Strong and thorough cleaning with the Power Drive Nozzle

The cleaning head also has a secret gem hidden within: the Power Drive Nozzle.

This special motor on the inside of the head rotates the roller so it can effectively clean from any floor surface. It lifts dust, dirt and even pet hair from carpets and off hard floors. Watch the short clip below to see it in action!

More battery time with the Dual Power Pack

With 2X models (A9 MASTER 2X, A9 MULTI 2X and A9 PETNBED 2X), interchangeable and rechargeable batteries are easy to swap over for continuous cleaning.

The two lithium-ion batteries in the LG CordZero handstick provide a possible total of a huge 80 minutes’ worth of vacuum time! (When operating in ‘normal’ start mode and without a Power Drive Nozzle™.)

By simply pushing the buttons on both sides of the battery, you can slip the battery in or out. What better way to speed up time spent on chores!

Comfortable operation with Thumb Touch Control®

Now that you know how it works on the inside, you’re probably wondering if all that technology makes the vacuum heavy or difficult to use. The short answer is: no.

CordZero is as cleverly designed on the outside as it is on the inside. These vacuums have an ergonomic Opti-balanced Handle™. This special handle reduces strain on your arm and wrist for relaxed and comfortable use – even when vacuuming the whole house!

The cleaner body of the CordZero is also specifically designed to face the floor at a 45 degree angle. Why? So that the centre of gravity of the motor and the battery are optimised to reduce muscle strain. Unlike other vacuums, it provides for an effortless position when cleaning the floor.

Perhaps the most noticeable comfort feature is Thumb Touch Control®. All the functions (on, off and power levels including turbo mode) are easy to control and are enabled with a touch of a thumb. LG has put all the control in the palm of your hand – literally!

Did we mention it’s also adjustable? There’s so much to love!

Easy, versatile storage

So you know what’s going on inside the CordZero, you’ve cleaned up the mess on the floor, and now you’re ready to kick your feet up. Packing away is just as easy with three storage options: Floor-standing mode, Wall-mount mode, or Compact mode.

The versatility in storage lets the CordZero fit into any space of your home, just the way you want.

iRobot Roomba 637

If tech-savviness isn’t your forte then the Roomba 637 is the robotic vacuum for you. It’s the standard-setting bot that is perfect for a thorough, everyday clean. With one press of a button (no programming required!) the Roomba gets to work with its patented 3-stage cleaning process.

Balancing the use of vacuum suction and debris extraction, it removes dirt, hair and dust from your carpets, tile, hardwood, and laminate flooring. Even the smallest dust particles are captured thanks to the AeroVac™ Filter.

You might be wondering how a vacuum can navigate itself around your home. Well, it’s smart. Very smart! The Roomba has an iAdapt Responsive Navigation system which uses a full suite of sensors enable the bot to work its way under furniture and around the tight spaces of your room. It’s even clever enough (thanks to cliff-detection sensors) to avoid stairs or ledges that would cause it to fall off.

When it has finished its round of cleaning, it automatically returns to its Home Base® to recharge. Too easy!

iRobot Roomba 890

If you’re up for something even smarter, the Roomba 890 is sure to impress you. It has all the impressive features of the Roomba 637 with even greater performance thanks to its AeroForce® 3-Stage Cleaning System.

It also has Tangle-free Dual Multi-Surface Brushes with an innovative design that’s durable enough to grab pet hair and large debris from the floor while reducing hair tangles and brush maintenance. Tick for even more convenience!

Its Edge-Sweeping Brush collects dust from along wall edges and corners too. In fact, the AeroForce® High-Efficiency Filter captures 99% of allergens, pollen, and particles and traps particles as small as 10 microns. How’s that for a healthy home environment?

Now, probably one of the most awesome features of the Roomba 890 is that you can control it from the palm of your hands! That’s right, the Roomba 890 is aboard the app train. Simply download the iRobot HOME App and you’ll be able to unlock a whole world full of features such as:

Like its Roomba relatives, the Braava won’t fall off stairs or ledges, and its smart iAdapt® 2.0 with Navigation Cube helps it keep track of where it’s been and where it needs to go.

It’s so simple and easy to set up. Just attach a cleaning cloth, press MOP or Sweep, and Braava will do the rest! It’s compatible with a variety of cloths and pads such as reusable microfiber cloths and disposable cleaning cloths.

The mopping robot is versatile and works on all hard surface floors, including laminate, hardwood, vinyl and tile. It has a triple-pass mopping action to clean up everyday dirt and grime, and sweeps back and forth in straight lines to trap dust, hair and dirt.

So how does it perform? On a single charge it can mop for up to 150 minutes or sweep for up to a whopping 210 minutes!

Getting the best of both worlds with Samsung’s FlexWash washing machine

If you’re on the fence about whether you prefer a top loader or front loader, you don’t have to decide. Samsung’s FlexWash Washer has both so that you can take care of the laundry all at once!

Samsung’s FlexWash™ is an all-in-one washing machine that has both a 16kg front loader as well as a 2.5kg top loader – that’s a total of a whopping 18.5kg capacity!

Why have both kinds of loaders? It’s simple really. The FlexWash gives you the flexibility (as the name suggests) to handle all kinds of laundry needs simultaneously, from small to large loads, delicates to everyday items.

The FlexWash is so flexible in fact that it also has Samsung’s innovative AddDoor. It’s exactly what it sounds like – an access door on the front loader so that you can prop in any forgotten items or dropped socks. The AddDoor allows you to add more fabric softener too, without draining the drum from water or detergent.

Because FlexWash is essentially two washing machines in one, you’ll get through your laundry faster and with fewer loads. Not only does its vast capacity save time, but so can each of the cycles. The programmes come in a variety to cater for the types of clothes you’re washing.

You can find FlexWash’s user manual here with all the details on every programme, but we’ve selected a few of our favourites from both the top and front loaders so you can know that make this washing machine a standout among the rest.

TOP LOADER: Programmes and cycles

This upper washer is intended for relatively small loads that you want cleaned quickly. Think of the last-minute uniform wash, the use of everyday gym gear or more frequent washes of delicates.

The programmes are simple to use with the options of Normal, Rinse + Spin and (for the more specific types of clothing) Active Wear and Delicates.

If you have particular materials to care for, you can always select warm or cold temperature, or you can choose Extra Rinse to rid laundry additives more thoroughly.

The Self Clean option is to keep the tub itself clean from dirt and bacteria. No need for detergents or bleach, just make sure the tub is empty, and when it’s done, you’ll be ready to wash more loads!

LOWER WASHER: Programmes and cycles

Using Super Speed, the FlexWash can power through a load in just 30mins without sacrificing cleaning performance. If you want an even faster cycle, Quick Wash will wash up to 2kg of laundry in a mere 15mins!

If your concern is more a pile of clothes that need a thorough clean, you’ll be impressed with the BubbleWash and BubbleSoak treatments available in the front loader.

BubbleSoak™ is a pre-wash treatment which intensively soaks clothes in the bubbles before the wash starts. This process helps loosen stains or dirt that usually stick onto fabrics, even during the cycle.

Similarly, BubbleWash™ is designed to help clean heavily-soiled clothing by generating foam through an innovative method of pre-mixing detergent with air and water from the beginning of the cycle. The residue is then able to come off a lot more easily.

Alternatively, you can use the power of steam on your load instead of a pre-treatment. With the Steam option, the washer senses the weight of the load within the drum and controls the amount of steam needed accordingly. Clever, right?

Steam is a great way to sanitise, particularly whites, sheets and other bedding.

Smart Control

What is arguably one of the most incredible features of the FlexWash Washer is what Samsung calls Smart Control. Smart Control lets you use your home network and Samsung Smart Home app to have control over the washer remotely – using your smartphone!

It works for both the top and front loaders. You can start, pause and track the remaining time left on your cycle, and you’ll get alerted when it’s finished! You can even schedule cycles from your smartphone.

When you select Smart Control, the indicator blinks and the front door locks. The machine then enters ‘waiting mode’ and waits for your command! You can find out more about how it works on the Samsung Smart Home page.

Other innovative features

Smart Control isn’t the only technologically advanced feature that FlexWash has to offer. It also has Smart Check – an error-monitoring system that also is compatible with the Samsung App.

Smart Check helps detect and diagnose certain problems (should they occur) and provides you with stress-free, quick and easy troubleshooting. How’s that for peace of mind?

We want to mention here that you won’t face any fuss for a long time. The digital inverter motor comes with an 11-year parts warranty!

This motor that we speak of works ingeniously without brushes, which in turn helps to minimise the number of separate moving parts. Less friction results in lower vibration, so you’re left with a machine that’s as quiet as it is intelligent!

This is enforced by VRT Plus™ (Vibration Reduction Technology), which allows even heavy loads to stay balanced within the tub and remain discreet in sound at high speeds.

Safety and efficiency

Little hands can go wandering around the house, especially when household appliances have eye-catching buttons. Conveniently, FlexWash comes with Child Lock.

There are Child Lock options on each of the loads which prevent children from accidentally starting or setting the washer. When selected, it locks all buttons except for POWER.

In addition to safety, Samsung has ensured the FlexWash’s efficiency. Rest assured that the lower washer meets the strict standards for Energy Star® certification, making it eco-friendly and energy-efficient.

With the FlexWasher being good for the environment, your long-term savings and your clothes, what’s left is to head to your local Bing Lee store to check it out for yourself!

The great debate: front loader or top loader washing machine?

Not quite sure which washing machine you should opt for? Here is an ultimate guide of the pros and cons of both front and top loaders.

Of course, there’s no right or wrong answer when picking a washing machine – it all depends on your lifestyle and personal preference. Nevertheless, there are pros and cons to each design, ones that may influence your decision more than others depending on what matters to you.

We’ve comprised a list of the good and not-so-good of both front and top loader washing machines to help make your decision easier.

It’s good to keep in mind that if your laundry is small or if you live in an apartment with no clothesline, a washer dryer combo is a space-saving option that will provide you with the 2-in-1 functions!

Front loader

PROS CONS
  • Gentler on clothes
  • Longer wash cycles
  • Generally uses significantly less water
  • Generally more expensive
  • Generally uses less energy due to the horizontal drum benefitting from gravity
  • Potentially more creased clothing due to the higher spin speeds (unless there’s an anti-crease cycle)
  • Uses less detergent
  • Most won’t let you add forgotten items once the cycle has started
  • More specific setting options
  • Heavy to move
  • Higher temperature wash options
  • Generally have a smaller capacity than top loaders
  • Cost less to run
  • Some may rinse poorly in comparison to top loaders due to low water usage
  • Higher spin speeds, which gets more water out and speeds up drying time
  • Best for small spaces
  • Stackable to put a dryer above it

Top loader

PROS CONS
  • Faster normal program wash cycles
  • Generally harsher on clothes
  • Generally cheaper to purchase
  • Uses up more water
  • Generally has a better rinse performance
  • Uses more detergent
  • Easy to add more clothes in once the cycle has started
  • Costs more to run
  • Lighter to move
  • Creates more lint due to the friction of clothes during the cycle
  • Slightly more reliable in comparison to front loaders
  • Not stackable
  • More energy efficient when using cold water
  • Less bending to retrieve clothes – a good option for people with back problems
