Breathe Easy this Christmas

We love to play together

An Australian Christmas can mean an abundance of impurities in the air at this time of year. There’s a lot of pollen and dust around, both popular irritants triggering allergies and if you’re in the east of Australia there’s smoke and ash from the bush fires wreaking havoc on the air quality this year.

Experts will tell you there is little we can do to minimise the effects of exposure to these air impurities while outside. This is particularly bad news for those who suffer from allergies, asthma or other respiratory issues. One of the best ways to create an environment that will let us breathe easy is with air purifiers.

dyson-purifying-fan.jpg

Dyson have created some efficient and stylish air purifiers featuring the essential HEPA filter. HEPA stands for high-efficiency particulate air. A HEPA filter is a type of air filter that works by forcing air through a fine mesh that traps harmful particles such as pollen, pet dander, dust mites, and smoke. Dyson Pure Cool Me Personal Purifying Fan is designed with an activated carbon and glass HEPA filter which captures gases and 99.95% of ultra fine particles from the air around you. It also has a clever night setting so you can set the sleep timer for between 15 minutes and 8 hours, meaning you can keep cool and comfortable during the night.

If you want a fan that does the whole job and more you’ll want a Dyson Pure Hot+Cool™ Purifier Fan Heater. It is Dyson’s latest purifying fan technology and automatically purifies the whole room, while also cooling you in summer or heating you in winter. It is so clever it can automatically detect airborne particles and gases, diagnose and report them in real time; allowing you to monitor the air quality through the Dyson Link app.

You can rest easy knowing Dyson purifiers are certified asthma and allergy friendly by Airmid Healthgroup laboratories and Sensitive Choice approved by National Asthma Council Australia.

Another great way to battle irritants is to keep your house free of them. The best way to remove surface dust can be done by a quality vacuum cleaner designed to get all the dust, pollen, pet hair and grime. Dyson comes to the rescue again with a vacuum cleaner for every job and person.

Think Smarter, Not Harder when it comes to Floorcare!

LG Main image

The floors in your house are one of the most heavily used items in the home. The daily bustle of feet and shoes, pet paws and furniture movements mean they are under constant wear and tear and will be the first to build up with dirt and grime. Leaving your floors dirty for too long can cause scratches, discolouration and ground-in dirt will ruin your floors. To keep them clean, looking their best and lasting the distance it’s important to think smarter not harder about your floor care.

PICK UP THAT LEGO

LegoIt seems obvious but a quick scoot around the house to pick up larger objects like coins, bobby pins or even Lego can go a long way in a streamlined clean. This step is often skipped by many and done on the fly as the vacuum cleaner moves from room to room. This can result in a lot of wasted time picking up items while the vacuum is running. Or it will mean some unwanted items are sucked up the vacuum and may clog or damage the machine… or even worse it will result in you fossicking around the dust chamber to retrieve that pesky bit of Lego.

WHIRLWIND DUST REMOVAL

LG AeroscienceThe most important step with any floor care routine is effective dust removal. Dust and pet hair can be a major cause for allergens in the house. It is also important to remove all dirt before mopping to ensure you aren’t simply moving the bigger chunks of dust and debris around your home. AEROSCIENCE is the name given to LG’s air flow vacuum technology that utilises powerful mini whirlwinds of air to separate out dust particles. The LG Inverter Motor rotates at high speed, creating rapid air flow inside the vacuums cyclone chambers. Meaning you’ll get all that troublesome dust up quickly and efficiently.

DON’T BUMP THE FURNITURE

Furniture legs

To avoid bumping the vacuum cleaner into your furniture you can use a clean paintbrush to remove dirt and hair away from the legs of furniture to make vacuuming around difficult objects easier.

HASSLE-FREE MOPPING

Mops

Mopping technology has come a long way to make our lives so much easier. No longer will you need a separate clunky mop and bucket to finish off after the vacuuming, with the LG CordZero® A9 Ultimate you’ll reduce your cleaning time by vacuuming and mopping at the same time. The mopping head can be filled with water and the machine automatically adds water to the two rotating mop pads every six to eight seconds, depending on the setting.

GET THE HEIGHT RIGHT

Height adjustable LG

Having a device which will allow for altering the length of the vacuum reach with ease is not only a massive time saver but an accessible option for anyone needing it. The LG CordZero range has a telescopic pipe adjustable to 4 different lengths for added versatility. This option means you can clean stairs and harder to reach places easier, and it is also great for people of all heights or those who may use a wheelchair. Plus, the Opti-balanced Handle has been ergonomically designed to provide comfort and reduce muscle effort while vacuuming.

Hassle-Free Spring Cleaning

Spring has well and truly made itself known. We can start to enjoy our gardens coming to life, the flourishing cherry blossoms and the warmer days tempting us to take a dip at our favourite swim spot.

Spring also serves as the perfect time to fling open your bedroom doors, cupboards and wardrobes and declutter and clean the house thoroughly. Go through all the boxes of odd and ends to be sorted, file all the piles of mixed paperwork, finally dust the often strategically ignored shelves and furniture items around the house and remove all the dust and pet hair hiding in carpet and corners of rooms.

To make your job even easier here’s the low down on Dyson’s best products to help with a spring clean.

GOOD-BYE CORDS

walmount

Anyone who has ever vacuumed a house can tell you how inconvenient corded vacuums can be. The sheer limitations caused by the cord length, the need to continually unplug it and plug it back in from room to room. And then there’s the delicate dance you need to engage in as you swerve from side to side to avoid running over the cord as you tango your way around the vacuum cleaner. Dyson allows you to say goodbye to cord hassles and just get on with the job of spring cleaning. Being cordless makes them super portable as well. Some, like the Dyson V7 Cordfree vacuum can even be wall mounted with their charging unit for easy storage. There are a range of heads and accessories that can be used for cleaning carpet, hard floors and hard to reach nooks and crannies. It’s worth noting that being cordless, stick vacuum cleaners do have a limited run time, so make sure they are fully charged before big cleaning jobs and always return them to the charging unit after use.

DUST AWAY ALLERGIES

dyson-soft-brush-hero1

Giving your house a really good vacuum can help control irritants that contribute to allergies and the nasty hay fever that comes along with spring.

Dust build up can cause a lot of allergy issues for those sensitive to it. The Dyson Soft Dusting Brush attachment is perfectly designed to lightly dust surfaces and makes quick work of hard to clean areas like window blinds. The soft dusting brush gently removes dust and allergens from flat surfaces, delicate areas and upholstery.

You can also try using the Dyson V11 Absolute Cordless vacuum to effectively clean carpeted areas where dust builds up more easily, while also transitioning seamlessly to harder surfaces like wood and tiles. If allergens are a real issue for you, try to vacuum once or twice a week to minimise dust, pollen, skin cells and dust mite droppings.

CATS, CARS AND KIDS

dog and baby

While the bulk of the spring cleaning will involve decluttering, dusting, scrubbing and vacuuming, there are areas of your life that will need cleaning more regularly. Apart from the seemingly endless mess children like to leave behind after every meal or craft session, many cats and dogs will start to shed their winter coats at this time of year. That means a build-up of loose hair balls rolling down the halls mixed with cereal crumbs and left-over glitter.

car clean

A portable handheld vacuum cleaner like the Dyson V7 Trigger Handheld is ideal for quick clean ups like these and you can even choose cordless vacuum cleaners designed specifically for pet hair . Handheld vacuums make cleaning easier and more convenient than ever and are also great for hard to reach places like in the car, where corded vacuums are just too big a hassle to use.

HOW TO SLEEP THROUGH THE SUMMER HEAT!

Air Conditioner Blog.jpg

This year meteorologists are forecasting warmer summer days than average, and more importantly even warmer than average nights. While you can escape the summer heat during the day with office air-con, a dip in a pool, or cruising the temperature-controlled shopping centres, night-time is an entirely different issue.

Humans sleep best when the temperature is 17 to 19 Degrees Celsius. Research shows that hot nights can take a heavy toll on our sleep quality and overall well being, with sleeplessness costing the Australian economy $66 billion every year.

As the cost continues to increase, here are some essential home cooling tips to help you sleep better through the summer heat.

LIMIT THE HEAT GETTING IN

Drapes

Thick curtains or drapes can be a good first step towards insulating a room. Blackout curtains will reduce a massive amount of light and heat, and thermal curtains will also help keep the heat out further. The drapes can also reduce energy loss through windows if you are using air conditioning, so it saves on cooling costs as well.

Furthermore, because hot air rises you’ll notice the top story of your home is hotter than downstairs and the heat in the roof cavity can get up to 70 Degrees Celsius. For this reason, you could consider installing roof ventilation systems that rely on wind power to remove hot air from enclosed roof spaces.

SPLIT SYSTEM AIR CONDITIONERS

Split System

A split system is the perfect option to cool your home in the summer. A split system will cool a room or specific area of the home without requiring major renovations. It is comprised of two parts, an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The indoor unit takes up very little room when mounted on the wall and the outdoor unit sits flush up against an outside wall of the home.

SHOWERS

Shower

A cold shower right before bed can help lower your body temperature just enough for you to fall asleep. However, if you have air conditioning in your bedroom you might find a warm shower will be more beneficial. The heat of a warm shower relaxes your body and modifies your body temperature so that when you enter a cooler room your body temperature drops, along with other physiological elements like breathing and heart rate. All this signals to your body that it is sleep time.

 PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONING UNITS

Portable AirCon

If you’re in a rental, consider a portable air conditioner unit. They come in two main designs, ones that use a drainage tank and ones that use a flexible venting hose easily mounted in a window. Both designs are renter friendly and you’re on your way to a cool room with the press of a button. The added bonus of these systems is many will filter and dehumidify the air.

THE HUMBLE FAN

Fan

A portable fan is an essential for any home, it can be moved to any room and/or location of the property where you have a lot more options nowadays when it comes to fans.

Consider a pedestal or desk fan as the easiest and affordable go-to method of cooling your home. However, if the blades concern you why not try a functional tower fan. They take up less space, are safer for little fingers as they don’t have large spinning blades and are often programmable and come with remotes and temperature displays.

THE CONTEMPORARY BLADE-FREE DYSON COOLERS

Dyson

Finally, if you want a step above the rest when it comes to freestanding fans you can’t go past the Dyson cooling fans. They help circulate the air throughout the room with an amazing blade-free design. The fan is even extra quiet, particularly in night mode to help cool you while sleeping in the summer heat. The pure cool link tower fan also has a 360° Glass HEPA filter which captures ultra fine particles from the air including pollen, bacteria and pet dander.

How to fight allergies in the home

iStock-859615534.jpg

It’s that time of year again – allergy season!

Allergens and irritations come in many forms. Including pollen, grass, dust, pet dander and mould spores.  To avoid triggering your allergies during the warmer months you’ll need to stop them building up or getting into your home.

AVOID BRINGING POLLEN IN

Pollen in air

Pollen is one of the most common allergens for many Australians. If you suffer from this common allergy trigger you might want to consider how you’re possibly bringing it into your home.

Pollen is usually emitted from plants between 5am and 10am each day, so try and avoid going outdoors in the early morning hours, particularly if it is a dry and hot day, as this may signal it being a high pollen count day.

Pollen can come indoors via open windows and doors, and also your clothes. Consider changing your outfit or showering once arriving home, and also avoid hanging clothes outside to dry if it has been a particular high pollen count day.

PURIFY THE AIR

Dyson air purifier

Pet dander, pollen and other allergen particles may be more easily distributed in the air if there’s not enough moisture. To help filter out these nasty contaminants consider an air purifier. Most air purifiers can remove over 99% of airborne allergens, and ones with a HEPA filter will pick up particles as small as 0.3 microns.

To breathe easy, you can browse the full range of air purifiers HERE.

UPGRADE THE VACUUM CLEANER

Vacuum more

Vacuuming helps control allergens, particularly on carpeted areas where dust builds up more easily. You should also target areas you sit and sleep, as this is where more dead skin cells will be and potentially where dust mites will be drawn to. Try to vacuum up to twice a week to minimise dust, pollen, skin cells and dust mite droppings.

If you need to upgrade your vacuum cleaner browse the full range HERE.

REMOVE HUMIDITY

dehumidifier

Do you suffer from damp air in the home, particularly in the warmer more humid months of the year? High humidity is a serious issue and can lead to mould and mildew growth, whilst also encouraging dust mites. A dehumidifier lowers the air humidity by condensing and removing moisture from the air. It will help battle damp issues and also make your home a more comfortable environment on those muggy Australian summer days.

Browse the full range of dehumidifiers HERE.

KEEP HEATING, COOLING AND VENTILATION FANS CLEAN

It is important to regularly replace or clean the filters in your air conditioner and exhaust fans. Dust and mould can build up, causing bad odours and adding to allergy triggers. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how often it should be done. Furthermore, it is also important to consider removing any additional dust on ceiling, stand-alone and ventilation fans.

THE ULTIMATE MULTI-TASKER IN OUR HOME – THE TV

If you aren’t already taking full advantage of what your modern big screen TV  can do, we’ll show you exactly what is now possible.

Long gone are the days when TVs took up valuable real estate in our living rooms for the pure task of passive entertainment viewing. There was a time when TV cabinets were designed with doors to hide them away when not in use, whilst some home designers suggested keeping them out of lounge rooms entirely.

TVs are more than just a device to watch the midday movie or the nightly news on. Just like many things in our life these days, it has learnt to multi-task.

Here are some of the ways you can take advantage of the technology built-in to new big screen TVs.

Samsung art work Q7 QLED 4K UHD TV

TVs are getting thinner and more streamlined every year. When wall mounted, a big screen TV complements your home in the same way a piece of art does.

But what about the unpleasant blank-screen issue that makes a TV stand-out for all the wrong reasons in your living space when not in use? TVs now offer the ability to do away with the blank-screen issue by offering the capability to display stunning photographs, content or digital works of art on the screen when not being used.

The remote control has seen its own evolution over the years. Starting with the humble days of actually getting up off the couch to change the channel, to a wired remote, wireless remote, and now voice recognition.

Whilst voice recognition can be utilised by external devices like the Google Home to navigate TV, film and music streaming services through your TV, it is much easier when the software is built-in.

6 game-changing things you need to know about LG’s CordZero Handstick Vacuum Cleaners

No, not all vacuums are the same! Here are six things that make LG’s CordZero Handstick Vacuum Cleaners the latest must-have home appliance.

How great can a vacuum really be? Most of us detest plugging one in and relentlessly rolling a vacuum head over and over and over a stubborn cluster of crumbs.

It can be one of the most time-consuming chores because there’s the transition from rugs to tiles, and carpet to floorboards. Then there’s the hard to reach places like the corners of the staircase or the inside of the car. Ugh. The struggle is all too real.

That’s if you have the wrong vacuum.

LG has now released an incredible gamer changer on the home appliance scene with their range of CordZero Handstick Vacuum Cleaners. As the name suggests, these vacuums are completely cordless – meaning you have complete freedom from tangled cords and can clean up mess in any space conveniently!

Pretty impressive at first glance, right? The CordZero range has so much more to offer than the obvious cordless freedom, so we’ve gathered six of our favourite features about the CordZero collection that will change the way you look at cleaning.

Busts the dust with 5 Step Filtration

Let’s start off with the technical features that CordZero has to offer. Don’t be overwhelmed because we’ll take you through step by step – to a total of five steps to be exact. This dreamy cleaning machine uses 5 Step Filtration immediately from the second you turn it on to moment a particle of dust lands in its bin.

This deconstructed image shows exactly what’s going on in this lightweight vacuum (i.e.… a lot!). For a simplified explanation, dust and larger dirt particles are separated in steps 1–3 and deposited in the dustbin, while smaller particles including fine dust are filtered in steps 4–5.

These super vacuums have something called an Axial Turbo Cyclone™ design, which generates powerful mini whirlwinds of air that suck in and separate dust particles and dirt.

The built-in superfine spiral blades direct the airflow to help enhance dust separation. It’s ultra-powerful on large and small dirt particles. Check out how thoroughly it picks up sprinkles from a shaggy rug!

Improved performance with the lightweight Smart Inverter Motor® P9

The motor of any machine is arguably the most important part. LG uses a brushless Smart Inverter Motor™ in CordZero that spins at a rapid speed. It drives the fan to generate internal cyclonic airflows inside the vacuum to help separate and filter dust particles, as we mentioned in point 1.

The key feature to note is that the LG CordZero vacuum is designed with a brushless motor, which means it works with minimal mechanical friction during operation. Motors with carbon brushes may create carbon dust which wears over time when the motor is operating. Since the Smart Inverter Motor™ doesn’t use any carbon brushes, it generates minimal carbon dust.

By magnetic separation of the components (yes, we’re putting science caps on), the motor is more durable and will have a longer life. Such a long life, in fact, that LG offers a 10-year parts warranty on the motor!

The physical design of the motor itself is powerful yet small and lightweight, which allows the new and improved design compared to LG’s previous handstick vacuum cleaner.

Strong and thorough cleaning with the Power Drive Nozzle

The cleaning head also has a secret gem hidden within: the Power Drive Nozzle.

This special motor on the inside of the head rotates the roller so it can effectively clean from any floor surface. It lifts dust, dirt and even pet hair from carpets and off hard floors. Watch the short clip below to see it in action!

More battery time with the Dual Power Pack

With 2X models (A9 MASTER 2X, A9 MULTI 2X and A9 PETNBED 2X), interchangeable and rechargeable batteries are easy to swap over for continuous cleaning.

The two lithium-ion batteries in the LG CordZero handstick provide a possible total of a huge 80 minutes’ worth of vacuum time! (When operating in ‘normal’ start mode and without a Power Drive Nozzle™.)

By simply pushing the buttons on both sides of the battery, you can slip the battery in or out. What better way to speed up time spent on chores!

Comfortable operation with Thumb Touch Control®

Now that you know how it works on the inside, you’re probably wondering if all that technology makes the vacuum heavy or difficult to use. The short answer is: no.

CordZero is as cleverly designed on the outside as it is on the inside. These vacuums have an ergonomic Opti-balanced Handle™. This special handle reduces strain on your arm and wrist for relaxed and comfortable use – even when vacuuming the whole house!

The cleaner body of the CordZero is also specifically designed to face the floor at a 45 degree angle. Why? So that the centre of gravity of the motor and the battery are optimised to reduce muscle strain. Unlike other vacuums, it provides for an effortless position when cleaning the floor.

Perhaps the most noticeable comfort feature is Thumb Touch Control®. All the functions (on, off and power levels including turbo mode) are easy to control and are enabled with a touch of a thumb. LG has put all the control in the palm of your hand – literally!

Did we mention it’s also adjustable? There’s so much to love!

Easy, versatile storage

So you know what’s going on inside the CordZero, you’ve cleaned up the mess on the floor, and now you’re ready to kick your feet up. Packing away is just as easy with three storage options: Floor-standing mode, Wall-mount mode, or Compact mode.

The versatility in storage lets the CordZero fit into any space of your home, just the way you want.

How to wall mount a TV (properly!)

After the excitement of purchasing a brand new HD, 4K, OLED or QLED TV, the best thing is bringing it home. For the best cinema-like feel in the living room, most people are ditching the entertainment unit or stand of the TV and opting to hang the screen on the wall.

Once mounted, the viewing experience is completely transformed! You’ll get an unobstructed view, a minimalist look and, best of all, comfort from the perfect eye level!

However, it’s not uncommon to take a little while to get to that stage – first is the process of actually hanging the TV. You want to make sure that you’re not drilling unnecessary holes into your wall and that you’re setting up all the wiring properly.

Most importantly, wall mounting a TV needs to be done with all the essential precautions for the safety of yourself and your family. The TV needs to sit securely on the wall, ensuring nothing is loose or unstable.

Here’s how to wall mount a TV properly.

Finding the right wall mount

Not just any wall mount will be suitable for your TV. Wall mounts differ depending on what brand, how heavy and what size your TV is.

Always read the packaging to ensure that your TV lies within the minimum and maximum TV size and weight range of the wall mount.

Another thing to take note of is whether you want the mount to tilt, swivel or hang the TV snug against the wall. The best way to decide is to visualise your living room and where you’ll be watching from.

If your couch is much lower than the hanging point of your TV, you may choose a tilting mount. If you have a wide living room, you may opt for a swivelling mount.

If you have a Samsung QLED TV, don’t forget that Samsung has created a No Gap Wall Mount for seamless hanging.

Measuring and fixing

Because you will be drilling holes into your wall, you’ll want to be certain of instalment the first time around. Here is the basic how-to, along with some helpful tips!

  • Read the instructions/manual twice before proceeding. It will prevent you from missing an important piece of information before it’s too late.
  • Also before proceeding, make sure you have the necessary tools and equipment, as well as any screws or fixtures that may not already be included in your wall mount pack.

5 pieces of entertainment that are better on a QLED TV

Is your TV providing you with less-than-premium quality? Here’s how Samsung’s QLED TV will drastically transform the way you enjoy these five forms of entertainment.

If you don’t know a whole lot about Samsung’s QLED TVs, you’ll want to read this post on why they’re picture perfect. QLED uses Quantum Dot technology and LED panelling to produce outstanding quality in the colour, clarity and detail of the picture on the screen.

We know that you’ll love QLED no matter what – whether you’re binge-watching shows on Netflix, playing the latest HDR video games or streaming from your favourite YouTube subscriptions.

Any content on a QLED is gratifying in its own right, but we’ve narrowed down our five favourite things to watch on Samsung’s best TV yet.

Try them out for yourself and let us know in the comments below what entertainment you love on your QLED!

Horror films

Most TVs don’t provide a cinema-like quality and disappoint people who look forward to a much-anticipated scary movie. Why? Because horror films are generally dark (literally speaking) and their frames can be hard to distinguish.

Because of the deliberate lack of lighting used by directors to create suspense, the details of the scene often get lost and fade into blackness. But that doesn’t mean your TV screen can’t show clear-cut lines or deliver impressive contrast.

With QLED, nothing gets faded into the background.  In fact, you’ll be able to easily decipher between the different shades of black in the scene. Just take a look at the cat in the example below.

The precise colour control of Quantum Dot technology makes it easy for your eyes to catch that shadow in the corner or the masked man approaching…

Cartoons

On the flip side of why you’d want to watch horror films on a QLED, you’ll also want to switch to a QLED to watch cartoons for its incredible display of bright colours.

QLED delivers 100% colour volume. As Samsung explains, “It is how bright each colour can be shown, while maintaining the same rich hue it has at lower brightness (luminance) levels.”

Rather than colours appearing dull or washed out, as on standard conventional TVs, QLED doesn’t shift colours to appear inaccurately. It means that colours reach their richness individually and evenly so that you’re left with overall dazzling colour.

It’s this technology that will give you a much more vibrant and pleasant viewing of anime, animated films or cartoon TV shows. You see animations in the same quality that they were created. To think you haven’t seen the real colours of the balloons in Up!

Wildlife documentaries

Aside from the extreme brightness you can enjoy while watching cartoons, the 100% colour volume re-creates accurate real-world palettes too.

What does this mean? Well, when directors capture beautiful scenes, you get to see it as they saw it. Tone for tone and shade for shade.

That’s why watching wildlife documentaries are even more extraordinary on a QLED. It portrays such a precise picture that you’ll feel like you’re face to face with the world’s most fascinating creatures.

Many nature-themed documentaries these days are filmed up-close and personal. With a QLED, you’ll see such magnificent detail – every slight wrinkle on an elephant, every vibrant feather on an exotic bird and all the magical movements and neon colours under the sea.

Sports

QLED has an extremely thin bezel to eliminate the look of a framed TV. It also has one clear cable that runs almost invisibly from the TV, so whether you’re hanging the TV or putting it on a stand, the screen appears boundless.

What does this have to do with sports? Well, the TV’s seamless design gives a virtually endless picture, so you don’t feel boxed in. Watching the big game? You’ll feel like you’re at the stadium!

No longer will you have to fight for the best seat on game day either. Whether it’s the middle of the couch or the bar stool on the bench, you’ll still get a good view thanks to QLED’s expanded viewing angles.

The TV appears just as bright and accurate from any seat, so you’ll love hosting at your place!

Gaming

The user experience on a QLED is unlike anything gamers have seen before. The latest High Dynamic Range content – especially games – is designed for ultimate enjoyment. But not all TVs can deliver HDR content as intended.

QLED has superb realism so that you can genuinely feel immersed when you play. Whether it’s racing, sci-fi or adventure-packed HDR games, you can bring any world to life.

The TV has an ultra-fast motion rate and delivers silky smooth movement so that you can be in control and hit even the most precise target. You can also expect action in real time thanks to QLED’s exceptionally low input lag.
