We take a lot of photos in our modern digital world. But how often are we getting those memories printed out into tangible photos? These also make great devices at a party, where photos taken that minute can then be printed off and shared with guests at the press of a button.

HOW TO SLEEP THROUGH THE SUMMER HEAT!

Air Conditioner Blog.jpg

This year meteorologists are forecasting warmer summer days than average, and more importantly even warmer than average nights. While you can escape the summer heat during the day with office air-con, a dip in a pool, or cruising the temperature-controlled shopping centres, night-time is an entirely different issue.

Humans sleep best when the temperature is 17 to 19 Degrees Celsius. Research shows that hot nights can take a heavy toll on our sleep quality and overall well being, with sleeplessness costing the Australian economy $66 billion every year.

As the cost continues to increase, here are some essential home cooling tips to help you sleep better through the summer heat.

LIMIT THE HEAT GETTING IN

Drapes

Thick curtains or drapes can be a good first step towards insulating a room. Blackout curtains will reduce a massive amount of light and heat, and thermal curtains will also help keep the heat out further. The drapes can also reduce energy loss through windows if you are using air conditioning, so it saves on cooling costs as well.

Furthermore, because hot air rises you’ll notice the top story of your home is hotter than downstairs and the heat in the roof cavity can get up to 70 Degrees Celsius. For this reason, you could consider installing roof ventilation systems that rely on wind power to remove hot air from enclosed roof spaces.

SPLIT SYSTEM AIR CONDITIONERS

Split System

A split system is the perfect option to cool your home in the summer. A split system will cool a room or specific area of the home without requiring major renovations. It is comprised of two parts, an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The indoor unit takes up very little room when mounted on the wall and the outdoor unit sits flush up against an outside wall of the home.

SHOWERS

Shower

A cold shower right before bed can help lower your body temperature just enough for you to fall asleep. However, if you have air conditioning in your bedroom you might find a warm shower will be more beneficial. The heat of a warm shower relaxes your body and modifies your body temperature so that when you enter a cooler room your body temperature drops, along with other physiological elements like breathing and heart rate. All this signals to your body that it is sleep time.

 PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONING UNITS

Portable AirCon

If you’re in a rental, consider a portable air conditioner unit. They come in two main designs, ones that use a drainage tank and ones that use a flexible venting hose easily mounted in a window. Both designs are renter friendly and you’re on your way to a cool room with the press of a button. The added bonus of these systems is many will filter and dehumidify the air.

THE HUMBLE FAN

Fan

A portable fan is an essential for any home, it can be moved to any room and/or location of the property where you have a lot more options nowadays when it comes to fans.

Consider a pedestal or desk fan as the easiest and affordable go-to method of cooling your home. However, if the blades concern you why not try a functional tower fan. They take up less space, are safer for little fingers as they don’t have large spinning blades and are often programmable and come with remotes and temperature displays.

THE CONTEMPORARY BLADE-FREE DYSON COOLERS

Dyson

Finally, if you want a step above the rest when it comes to freestanding fans you can’t go past the Dyson cooling fans. They help circulate the air throughout the room with an amazing blade-free design. The fan is even extra quiet, particularly in night mode to help cool you while sleeping in the summer heat. The pure cool link tower fan also has a 360° Glass HEPA filter which captures ultra fine particles from the air including pollen, bacteria and pet dander.

How to fight allergies in the home

iStock-859615534.jpg

It’s that time of year again – allergy season!

Allergens and irritations come in many forms. Including pollen, grass, dust, pet dander and mould spores.  To avoid triggering your allergies during the warmer months you’ll need to stop them building up or getting into your home.

AVOID BRINGING POLLEN IN

Pollen in air

Pollen is one of the most common allergens for many Australians. If you suffer from this common allergy trigger you might want to consider how you’re possibly bringing it into your home.

Pollen is usually emitted from plants between 5am and 10am each day, so try and avoid going outdoors in the early morning hours, particularly if it is a dry and hot day, as this may signal it being a high pollen count day.

Pollen can come indoors via open windows and doors, and also your clothes. Consider changing your outfit or showering once arriving home, and also avoid hanging clothes outside to dry if it has been a particular high pollen count day.

PURIFY THE AIR

Dyson air purifier

Pet dander, pollen and other allergen particles may be more easily distributed in the air if there’s not enough moisture. To help filter out these nasty contaminants consider an air purifier. Most air purifiers can remove over 99% of airborne allergens, and ones with a HEPA filter will pick up particles as small as 0.3 microns.

To breathe easy, you can browse the full range of air purifiers HERE.

UPGRADE THE VACUUM CLEANER

Vacuum more

Vacuuming helps control allergens, particularly on carpeted areas where dust builds up more easily. You should also target areas you sit and sleep, as this is where more dead skin cells will be and potentially where dust mites will be drawn to. Try to vacuum up to twice a week to minimise dust, pollen, skin cells and dust mite droppings.

If you need to upgrade your vacuum cleaner browse the full range HERE.

REMOVE HUMIDITY

dehumidifier

Do you suffer from damp air in the home, particularly in the warmer more humid months of the year? High humidity is a serious issue and can lead to mould and mildew growth, whilst also encouraging dust mites. A dehumidifier lowers the air humidity by condensing and removing moisture from the air. It will help battle damp issues and also make your home a more comfortable environment on those muggy Australian summer days.

Browse the full range of dehumidifiers HERE.

KEEP HEATING, COOLING AND VENTILATION FANS CLEAN

It is important to regularly replace or clean the filters in your air conditioner and exhaust fans. Dust and mould can build up, causing bad odours and adding to allergy triggers. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how often it should be done. Furthermore, it is also important to consider removing any additional dust on ceiling, stand-alone and ventilation fans.

Cool off this summer with the perfect drinking water made only from sunlight and air

Source Water Image.jpg

What if you could drink perfect mineral water every day of your life without the cost, inconvenience and environmental impact of buying bottled water from the shops? What if we could source our own water without extracting water from aquifers or adding chemicals to it? What if the world’s purest water isn’t found on earth, it’s found in the atmosphere above it?

What was once seen as drinking water of the future, SOURCE Hydropanel Technology is producing high-quality, renewable, off-grid drinking water for families and businesses across Australia, all from the comfort of people’s homes and office spaces.

Source Water Image_2

SOURCE Hydropanels combine material science, thermodynamics and a minimalist sleek design to produce a secure, continuous supply of clean drinking water. It does so by harnessing energy of the sun to power the entirely renewable process of tapping into the infinite supply of water vapour in the atmosphere. So, how does it work?

Ambient air is drawn in via fans and a hygroscopic material allows water molecules to be adsorbed into an air-tight chamber. The water then flows through a system where it is mineralised with magnesium and calcium for optimal taste and health.

The result? Fresh, great tasting, chemical free SOURCE water is then delivered straight to your kitchen fridge or tap!

Source Water Image_3

This means no more trips to the shop to buy those nasty single use plastic bottles. No more microplastics in your drinking water and it means having freedom and independence when it comes to your drinking water, so you and your family or colleagues have peace of mind.

A typical Hydropanel array can produce up to 600 standard water bottles per month, whilst offsetting over 100,000 plastic water bottles in its lifetime. With 60 litres of in-built storage, SOURCE Hydropanels can continually provide high-quality, great tasting drinking water for up to 15 years.

This is a fantastic solution for people who drink plastic bottled water, anyone who’s dependent on a tank rain water system or wants a high quality, local supply of drinking water to complement their mains drinking water supply. And with a payback of 3 – 4 years when compared to bottled water, SOURCE is a smart economic choice.

Source Water Image_4

Oh, and did we mention there’s an App? Not only can you as a SOURCE customer own and produce your own drinking water, you can also view water production and consumption from your smart devices, in real time. SOURCE Hydropanels come with in-built machine learning and are connected via a mesh network to the Network Operations Centre (NOC) in Scottsdale, Arizona. This connectivity allows SOURCE to be monitored for any updates required and optimised in-field. You can even switch your SOURCE array to sleep mode when you go away on holidays.

Source Water Image_5

All of this sounds like it’s from the future but it’s not. SOURCE Hydropanels are producing drinking water for people all across Australia, in New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria, Queensland and the ACT.

You can now buy and own your SOURCE Hydropanel array from Bing Lee. To try SOURCE water visit participating stores, Old Guildford, Taree and Belconnen or visit our online store to purchase your high quality, independent water supply!

Winter entertaining with one game-changing kitchen item

If you are new to the idea of steam ovens in the home be prepared to discover the amazing array of culinary possibilities they offer up.

Sitting around and connecting with friends and family over a hearty winter meal is one of the true pleasures in life that can’t be bought. When you combine this natural Australian pastime with appliances that make the process easier you have a winning combination.

Steam ovens have become the next big game-changing kitchen item in the home since the microwave oven. Steam ovens and steam combination ovens have been around since the 1970’s, however they were almost entirely used for industrial cooking and catering. The efficiency of cooking and the ability to replace several kitchen items at once meant they quickly became popular in restaurant kitchens around the world. However, they generally eluded our home kitchens until more recent times.

Today the steam combination oven is something every home should have – making life easier and freeing-up time and space. Let’s take a look at the top 4 reasons you should consider a Miele steam/steam combination oven in your kitchen, and just how you can use it to entertain with family and friends.

DGC-6660-XXL-20000104038.jpg

Cook Multiple Meals at Once

Miele steam ovens and steam combination ovens offer the ability to cook a whole three course meal in one sitting. The beauty of the popular steam combination oven is that it can do everything your old oven did, but with the added bonus of being able to steam side-dishes, soups or desserts while the main is cooking. Miele steam combination ovens come with additional oven functions such as Conventional heat, Top or Bottom heat, Full or Economy grill, Fan grill or Intensive bake.

The steam combination ovens also come with a wireless food probe which can be used to monitor the core temperature constantly. The oven can calculate the cooking duration automatically and will stop the cooking process when the set core temperature is reached. That means more time relaxing with your guests.

Won’t Dry Out Foods

Humidity in our ovens play a huge role in how our food cooks and ultimately tastes. Food scientist and author of Modernist Cooking, Nathan Myhrvold, says “We cook our food using technology invented to bake bricks.”. Hence these traditional ovens have no control over humidity.

The steam ovens allow an immediate exchange of heat to provide quicker cooking without the need to pre-heat, while also preventing flavours, vitamins and nutrients from evaporating out of the food.

The moisture setting in the ovens also allow food to be revived the day after – this includes leftovers and baked breads.

Replaces Other Kitchen Appliances

A steam combination oven replaces bulkier stand-alone steamers, steam ovens, dehydrators, and slow cookers. Essentially freeing up room on the kitchen bench top when cooking, and removing the need to stash away extra appliances and utensils when not in use.

Saves Cleaning Time

How often have you finished a meal only to be met with the unattractive reality of a kitchen full of dirty appliances that need soaking and scrubbing? The Miele steam combination oven saves time by removing the need to clean multiple kitchen appliances after one cooking session.

Unlike other systems, the steam is generated outside the oven interior in Miele steam ovens. This offers considerable advantages for the cooking process but also means lime scale cannot build up in the oven, making for quick and easy cleaning.

Lastly, to make your life easier the inner cabinet of the steam combination oven is made from stainless steel with a special linen-weave structure and PerfectClean finish, making it easier to clean and less sensitive to scratching than other ovens.

THE ULTIMATE MULTI-TASKER IN OUR HOME – THE TV

If you aren’t already taking full advantage of what your modern big screen TV  can do, we’ll show you exactly what is now possible.

Long gone are the days when TVs took up valuable real estate in our living rooms for the pure task of passive entertainment viewing. TVs are more than just a device to watch the midday movie or the nightly news on. Just like many things in our life these days, it has learnt to multi-task.

Here are some of the ways you can take advantage of the technology built-in to new big screen TVs.

VIEW MORE THAN JUST FREE-TO-AIR BROADCASTING

Samsung art work Q7 QLED 4K UHD TV

TVs now offer the ability to do away with the blank-screen issue by offering the capability to display stunning photographs, content or digital works of art on the screen when not being used.

The remote control has seen its own evolution over the years. Starting with the humble days of actually getting up off the couch to change the channel, to a wired remote, wireless remote, and now voice recognition.

Whilst voice recognition can be utilised by external devices like the Google Home to navigate TV, film and music streaming services through your TV, it is much easier when the software is built-in.

6 game-changing things you need to know about LG’s CordZero Handstick Vacuum Cleaners

No, not all vacuums are the same! Here are six things that make LG’s CordZero Handstick Vacuum Cleaners the latest must-have home appliance.

How great can a vacuum really be? Most of us detest plugging one in and relentlessly rolling a vacuum head over and over and over a stubborn cluster of crumbs.

It can be one of the most time-consuming chores because there’s the transition from rugs to tiles, and carpet to floorboards. Then there’s the hard to reach places like the corners of the staircase or the inside of the car. Ugh. The struggle is all too real.

That’s if you have the wrong vacuum.

LG has now released an incredible gamer changer on the home appliance scene with their range of CordZero Handstick Vacuum Cleaners. As the name suggests, these vacuums are completely cordless – meaning you have complete freedom from tangled cords and can clean up mess in any space conveniently!

Pretty impressive at first glance, right? The CordZero range has so much more to offer than the obvious cordless freedom, so we’ve gathered six of our favourite features about the CordZero collection that will change the way you look at cleaning.

Busts the dust with 5 Step Filtration

Let’s start off with the technical features that CordZero has to offer. Don’t be overwhelmed because we’ll take you through step by step – to a total of five steps to be exact. This dreamy cleaning machine uses 5 Step Filtration immediately from the second you turn it on to moment a particle of dust lands in its bin.

This deconstructed image shows exactly what’s going on in this lightweight vacuum (i.e.… a lot!). For a simplified explanation, dust and larger dirt particles are separated in steps 1–3 and deposited in the dustbin, while smaller particles including fine dust are filtered in steps 4–5.

These super vacuums have something called an Axial Turbo Cyclone™ design, which generates powerful mini whirlwinds of air that suck in and separate dust particles and dirt.

The built-in superfine spiral blades direct the airflow to help enhance dust separation. It’s ultra-powerful on large and small dirt particles. Check out how thoroughly it picks up sprinkles from a shaggy rug!

Improved performance with the lightweight Smart Inverter Motor® P9

The motor of any machine is arguably the most important part. LG uses a brushless Smart Inverter Motor™ in CordZero that spins at a rapid speed. It drives the fan to generate internal cyclonic airflows inside the vacuum to help separate and filter dust particles, as we mentioned in point 1.

The key feature to note is that the LG CordZero vacuum is designed with a brushless motor, which means it works with minimal mechanical friction during operation. Motors with carbon brushes may create carbon dust which wears over time when the motor is operating. Since the Smart Inverter Motor™ doesn’t use any carbon brushes, it generates minimal carbon dust.

By magnetic separation of the components (yes, we’re putting science caps on), the motor is more durable and will have a longer life. Such a long life, in fact, that LG offers a 10-year parts warranty on the motor!

The physical design of the motor itself is powerful yet small and lightweight, which allows the new and improved design compared to LG’s previous handstick vacuum cleaner.

Strong and thorough cleaning with the Power Drive Nozzle

The cleaning head also has a secret gem hidden within: the Power Drive Nozzle.

This special motor on the inside of the head rotates the roller so it can effectively clean from any floor surface. It lifts dust, dirt and even pet hair from carpets and off hard floors. Watch the short clip below to see it in action!

More battery time with the Dual Power Pack

With 2X models (A9 MASTER 2X, A9 MULTI 2X and A9 PETNBED 2X), interchangeable and rechargeable batteries are easy to swap over for continuous cleaning.

The two lithium-ion batteries in the LG CordZero handstick provide a possible total of a huge 80 minutes’ worth of vacuum time! (When operating in ‘normal’ start mode and without a Power Drive Nozzle™.)

By simply pushing the buttons on both sides of the battery, you can slip the battery in or out. What better way to speed up time spent on chores!

Comfortable operation with Thumb Touch Control®

Now that you know how it works on the inside, you’re probably wondering if all that technology makes the vacuum heavy or difficult to use. The short answer is: no.

CordZero is as cleverly designed on the outside as it is on the inside. These vacuums have an ergonomic Opti-balanced Handle™. This special handle reduces strain on your arm and wrist for relaxed and comfortable use – even when vacuuming the whole house!

The cleaner body of the CordZero is also specifically designed to face the floor at a 45 degree angle. Why? So that the centre of gravity of the motor and the battery are optimised to reduce muscle strain. Unlike other vacuums, it provides for an effortless position when cleaning the floor.

Perhaps the most noticeable comfort feature is Thumb Touch Control®. All the functions (on, off and power levels including turbo mode) are easy to control and are enabled with a touch of a thumb. LG has put all the control in the palm of your hand – literally!

Did we mention it’s also adjustable? There’s so much to love!

Easy, versatile storage

So you know what’s going on inside the CordZero, you’ve cleaned up the mess on the floor, and now you’re ready to kick your feet up. Packing away is just as easy with three storage options: Floor-standing mode, Wall-mount mode, or Compact mode.

The versatility in storage lets the CordZero fit into any space of your home, just the way you want.
