Bing Lee Launches Samsung Experience Destination

Bing Lee and Samsung today launched a major retail experience installation at Bing Lee’s Rhodes Shopping Centre store, designed to profile a selection of its Home Appliance products to Australian shoppers in an immersive and interactive way. The event was attended by Yenda and Lionel Lee, as well as Mr Yoon and Phil Newton from Samsung.

This display is the first of its kind for Samsung’s home appliance retail operations in Australia. The 100 square metre stand offers hands on product experiences through plumbed and connected Samsung home appliance products while customers visit the Bing Lee store. When shopping during peak periods, Bing Lee customers can also enjoy a beverage from the coffee machine located at the stand while they explore Samsung products.

The home-inspired design showcases a number of premium and innovative home appliances and also allows consumers to interact with the products. The space features zones of products including refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves, vacuum cleaners and dishwashers.

Galaxy tablets situated throughout the stand deliver an interactive way to discover products based on a number of questions. The customer can then have the information on the most relevant products emailed or sent via SMS to them.

A number of the products in the washing machine and refrigerator zones will be fully functional, enhancing the shopping experience and providing a realistic understanding of the product benefits in a realistic setting. The retail stand will also have a Samsung trained product expert available to provide consumers with specialised advice during peak trading hours.

The installation at the new Bing Lee Rhodes Shopping Centre will be open to the public from today, so be sure to come down and check out the new Samsung Retail Experience.

Samsung Smart Camera Range

The Samsung range of smart cameras have plenty of features to help you take great pictures and easily share them with friends and your social networks. Let’s check out the range and how each model offers different features to suit various uses.

The DV150F is a great camera for selfies. You can frame yourself and anyone else in your shot easily with the innovative 38 millimeter front LCD. No more guesswork when it comes to self portraits – get the right angle and expression captured perfectly on the 16 megapixel sensor with 5 times optical zoom and 25mm wide angle lens. In fact, you can make it fun with children mode to keep kids still, a visual countdown for your group and jump shot that takes shots in rapid succession to create gifs.

The next one is the WB30F, which also has a 16.2 megapixel lens and doubles to a 10 times optical zoom, which is great for getting up close to the action. For a camera this size and weight, it has a huge 3 inch screen on the back for previewing and then reviewing your compositions.

Then we step up to the WB250, with a 14.2 megapixel CMOS sensor for detailed images, an incredible 18 times optical zoom for really close up shots and optical image stabiliser to keep your pic blur free even when you are zooming right in. The touch screen on the 3 inch LCD makes it easy to move around the menu to adjust your photo options.

The WB800 takes photo capturing to another level for compact cameras with a 21 times zoom and 16.2 megapixel sensor. There are a huge amount of effects, filters, video recording and editing functions on the cameras themselves, so you can start making changes to your image as soon as you’ve captured it.

And of course the Samsung Galaxy Camera takes the main features of the WB800, has the Android Jelly Bean operating system built in, along with 3G mobile capability and a 4.8 inch touch screen, it’s the ultimate Smart Camera with access to all the photo apps that are available on Android as well as its own set of great editing tools – for both photo and video.

But now we come to the really interesting part – each one of these cameras is also a smart camera, with powerful wireless functionality built into each model. Let’s use the WB250 as the example of some of these great features.

First, none of us want to lose our precious memories, so wouldn’t it be great if we could easily back up all the photos we’ve taken on our phone. With all of these models, you can. Just move the dial to wifi, and you’ll be presented with a few different options. If you have a skydrive account, simply click on the cloud icon. It will ask you to connect to a wifi account, and then you enter your skydrive details. All the photos on your camera will sync with your skydrive, allowing you to access them from any other cloud connected device.

You can also upload to facebook, picasa, and videos to your youtube account. Once you enter your account details, you’ll have them there for seamless uploading from then on. You can even email selected photos as well to any person with an email address.

So that’s if you’re in an area with a wireless network. What if you’re out and about, snapping shots with friends at a party or on a road trip and want to share your every moment?

First of all we need to download the Samsung Smart Camera app onto our compatibleiPhone or Android smartphone. Activate the app and it will say to start the wi-fi feature on the camera. So we’ll turn the dial to the wi-fi selection and press mobile link. Pressing the direct link button does the same thing. For this we’ll select transfer photos from camera, and now the ID of the camera appears on the smartphone. You can now transfer pictures to the paired smartphone – no physical SD card needed, or any other wired connection.

Taking that concept one step further, you can then press the autoshare symbol that’s on the screen. Now that you have already paired with the camera, it will switch functions and now send any photo snapped on the camera directly to the smartphone – so you’ll end up with high quality shots right on your phone. You can then use your phone to edit or simply share your pics on your favourite social networks.

So there you go – great picture quality, awesome stand out features on each model and the easiest way to connect to friends, phones and your greater social network. That’s Samsung’s Smart Camera Range.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Smartphone

The Galaxy S4 from Samsung is full of great features to enhance your mobile life and stay connected, entertained and productive, no matter where you are.

Looking around the Galaxy S4, there’s the volume toggle, headphone jack, small mic, and then a small dot dot that is an infrared transmitter for your AV equipment. More on that later. The power button is on the side, then the Micro-usb and bottom mic.

The camera is a 13 megapixel shooter with an LED flash and a speaker down the bottom here. The back opens up with space for a microSD card slot up to 64GB and a micro Sim. The front has a 2 megapixel camera with full HD recording.

The camera has a whole bunch of settings to improve and enhance your shots. You can take a pic with some sound attached to it, have an animated photo, combine multiple images of a moving object into one image, have the best face images from multiple shots merged into the one photo, and add yourself into a shot using both cameras at once. Video calls become more interesting with the ability to show you and what you’re looking at – simultaneously.

The screen is a 5 inch , super AMOLED 1080p, so full high def display. It has a density of 441 pixel per inch. You simply can’t see individual pixels. The viewing angles are almost to the side angle of the screen so you could have two of you cosying up for an episode or YouTube clip.

Here are some unique features to the S4. First up is air gesture. If you’re on a browser and have multiple tabs open, it’s just a wave or your hand left or right to switch to the next tab. And if you’re reading and want to go down the page, it’s just a wave of your hand up or down to move the screen to the next section. This seems to be very responsive and works pretty well.

Then you have air view where you can use your own finger hovering above the screen to preview more text in an email, magnify text in a browser, or skip forward on a video – all without actually touching the screen. You can also set it to watch the movement of your head and scroll based on your head movement. Put air view and air gesture together and you have meaningful air-based functionality across quite a few apps, most of them productivity ones.

Then you have WatchOn, which uses the infrared sensor to turn your S4 into a remote control for your TV and some other devices like media players and PVRs, while also providing a channel guide based on the type of TV programs you like to watch.

There is also a driving mode which looks to be an extension of S voice with a trigger and set of commands for calling, texting, and navigating amongst others.

A couple of other notable apps that don’t appear anywhere else are S translator, which works with 10 languages on your email, sms and other selected apps. And there’s also S health, which works as a pedometer and calorie counter to help you get healthier.

All of this is powered by a quad Core Snapdragon chip buzzing away at 1.9 gigahertz. There’s 2 gig of RAM to help it keep up with all the multitasking going on with all the different apps and functions being called upon. It’s also 4G so you’ve got speed in downloads as well.

So that’s the Galaxy S4, and as you can see a great mobile device to stay connected, be entertained and enhance your productivity.

Superseded by the new Samsung Ultrabook range.

The XE500TC Ativ Smart PC is the new Windows 8 Slate PC from Samsung. Let’s unbox and have a close look at this mobile device.

Lets take the lid off and see what we have inside. On the underside we can see a layer of foam to protect the tablet during transport. Now the first thing we see in the box is the Infinity tablet, wrapped in plastic. Directly below it is the keyboard dock. After we take the dock out, we can see the small documentation slip including a user guide and warranty, along with a cleaning cloth. Underneath that we can see the power supply and USB cable which connects to the power supply unit and to a PC.

The ATIV Smart PC is a sturdy and solid Slate. At seven and sixty grams, it’s very portable, is only nine point nine millimetres in thickness.

Along with the full functionality of a Windows 8 PC, the S Pen enhanced the touch screen experience by providing a pressure sensitive stylus that can be used to edit, create and sketch on the ATIV screen. Combine that with S note and you have a handwriting recognition program that will convert your scribbled notes into a more professional document that you can edit and then share with colleagues or save for future reference.

New Products And A New Store for Bing Lee

The great thing about retail is there’s always new products released into the market. New tablets, pick up and go blenders, and sound bars to name a few, as we’ve seen lately! This week we’ll have a look at a few more products that have just arrived into our stores – as well as a… well, new store!

Samsung Curved OLED

Samsung Curved OLED: This new TV is a gimpse into the future of television screens. Available at the moment at the Alexandria store and due into more selected stores in the next few weeks, the Curved OLED represents the next leap in viewing technology. The self emitting diodes deliver the same intensity of LED panels, but because they are individual lights, blacks are the same as plasmas – so the total results is the richest colours you have ever seen on a screen.

The curved display is designed to immerse you in the content. The vision envelopes you so you feel almost part of the action, whether it’s sport or dramatic cinema. And even when the TV is turned off, it’s going to take the breath away from anyone that visits you. Style, bleeding edge technology and the best conversation piece in the street awaits you with Samsung’s curved OLED.

Yamaha Musical Instruments

Music: If you’re a regular customer of Bing Lee (and thank you if you are!) then you might have bought an audio system to play music, a tablet to watch music videos or a home theatre to bring concert DVDs alive. Now, you have the opportunity to create the music, with the introduction of music equipment in selected stores – Online, Alexandria, Balgowlah, Bankstown, Casula, Old Guildford, Penrith, Prospect and Rhodes stores.

With an electric guitar and amp pack, an acoustic guitar, two keyboards and an electronic drum kit, there’s enough gear to transform your whole family into the next Partridge family. If that’s your thing.

New Google Tablet

Nexus 7 (2013): Nexus is the name of the Google branded tablet and phone range. We’ve just received our first shipment of both the Wi-fi and 4G versions of the new Nexus 7, no name change but it’s the 2013 version. And it is a stunner: a 1,920 x 1200 screen on a bright, richly coloured 7” screen, you cannot discern pixels – it’s simply one of the best displays ever on a mini tablet.

Full support from Google means the latest updates to the operating system before any other manufacturer. You just have to try a full HD video to see how good this screen is. 3 Times The Fun With Samsung Galaxy Tab3

Tablets are fast taking over from notebooks in popularity when it comes to on the go computing, and Samsung has released its new tablet line up called the Galaxy Tab3 series, with three models in the range – a 7 inch, 8 inch and 10.1 inch. Let’s have a quick look at each, and the great features across entertainment, gaming and learning. Now, firstly take the tablet, feel how light and thin it is in your hand.

Galaxy Tab3 7″

The Galaxy Tab3 7 is a great, affordable tablet for reading ebooks and the spot of browsing and gaming when required. The thin and small design means it’s easy to carry with you in small bags or even in a large pocket. And being powered by Android, you have access to both the Google play and Samsung app stores for great content.

Galaxy Tab3 8″

The Galaxy Tab3 8 has a larger screen but Samsung have done a great job with the design to make it feel really comfortable in the palm of your hand. One of the secrets is in how thin the side bezel is so your hand can still reach around the full width – and because it’s so light, just over 300 grams, you can hold for extending reading periods if you’re engrossed in an ebook for example.

Galaxy Tab3 10.1″

The Galaxy Tab3 10.1 is the best screen size for watching video content and playing full screen games. If you like to use your tablet on the go and share content with someone close, then the 10.1” screen is perfect for sitting side by side and playing two player games and watching your favourite shows.

All Tab3s have a widescreen display, so if you’re watching a movies or TV shows that have been produced recently, the video content will take up the entire display just like a TV. And while we’re on video watching, here’s a cool feature – if you want to continue doing other things like browse the net or check an email, you can use the video pop-up function to have the video at a smaller size sitting on top of other content.

The Galaxy Tab3 range have a Micro SD card slot for extra storage, so you’ll never be worried about what you can load onto your Tab3.

The Galaxy Tab3 range also has a back facing camera, and it comes with some easy to use shooting software to help choose the right settings for your situation – sports, beach, and fireworks amongst others. They all also have a smaller front camera for selfies but more importantly for video calls – so if you’re on a wi-fi network you can video chat face to face with friends and family – and being a tablet you can pass it around and everyone can have a go!

Watching TV shows or movies is not a singular experience anymore – whether it’s with your smartphone or tablet, chances are you are using a smaller mobile device to check out the official website of the show you’re watching, or checking out actor profiles, and posting and reading on social networks. The second screen is here to stay, and the Galaxy Tab3 can do all that, and more!

On the 8 and 10.1 inch versions of the tab3, there’s an infrared transmitter. It uses an app that can transform your tab3 into a remote control for your TV, so if you are doing the whole “second screen” thing, if you decide to change the channel or need it a bit louder, you just switch across to the app and control it right there – simple as that.

There’s another feature that will keep TV arguments to a minimum. Just say someone else wants to watch a DVD or Blu ray movie on the TV. On selected Samsung Smart TVs, if your TV and tablet are connected to the same network at home, you can use your Tab3 8 or 10.1 to watch free to air as if you had an antenna on the Galaxy Tab3! And you can still change channels and volume too.

All Galaxy Tab3s use the Android platform, so you’ll have access to hundreds of thousands and games, music, movies and books through Google Play. But in addition to that, Samsung has its own Samsung App store where it selects and offers only compatible apps for learning and entertainment to ensure you get the best tablet experience.

Here’s our video on the Tab3 range:

Sound Bars Explained

For the next 4 days (5th September to 8th September), we’re offering 15% of all soundbars online and instore – prices as marked. Here’s some information on Soundbars if you haven’t explored this option to enhance your entertainment setup.

If you’ve bought a large screen TV in the last few years, you would probably have been blown away by the image quality and design of the television. However, you probably weren’t so impressed with the sound coming out of the TV. And that is one of the compromises that comes out of such eye catching, slim designs.

If you’re looking for a more rounded cinematic experience, you could look at a full-blown home theatre system, but you may not want to have multiple speakers and wires, especially in a open plan area. This is where a soundbar may be your best option to enhance your movie watching experience while maintaining an uncluttered entertainment area.

Sound bars are really simply to set up. Sound bars should really be an extension of your TV, not the other way around, and this is really one of the mindset shifts that you need to make. Other systems like component receivers usually have all the inputs going into the receiver, bypassing the TV completely, and that is a more serious audio setup.

If you already have everything going into the TV, then all you need is to identify the audio output from the TV – it might be an optical output, or if it’s a newer TV, an HDMI output. This way, anything you watch on the TV, from free-to-air sports programs, music shows and broadcast movies to external sources like blu rays and DVDs, will have the audio passed from the TV to the sound bar.

Most sound bars now have a subwoofer as part of the package, and this really adds oomph to any images on your screen. Many models actually have a wireless connection from the main soundbar component to the subwoofer, so all the subwoofer needs is a connection to a powerpoint.

Another consideration is the actual location of your soundbar. Make sure you know the measured height of the TV from the base to ensure that the soundbar you are looking at fits underneath the bezel of your flat panel, to ensure you don’t block any of the image area, or indeed the infrared receiver to control your TV channel, volume and other menu functions.

Even if your flat panel is mounted on the wall, some soundbar models are also wall-mountable, complimenting your entertainment setup in a classy and eye catching way. The wireless subwoofer then finishes the setup with practically no visible wires.

One issue that many audio systems have is a visible delay in the audio matching of the audio and screen visuals. Most sound bars have a lip synching function to correct that phenomenon so that the screen and audio delivery is perfectly delivered.

Virtual surround sound provides an experience similar to what you might get with physical speakers, letting you experience the movie as the director and sound engineer intended, using the walls of the room to bounce sound so that it arrives to you from different directions. This delivers an even more refined sound space with just the front soundbar and subwoofer.
